[00:00:31] Scott Maderer: [00:00:31] yeah. One of the other sources of stress and strain and burnout is oftentimes comes about when you know what you're supposed to be doing, when you know what God has put on your heart and on your mind as a calling, but you're not finding yourself able to live it out because maybe there's money holding you back.
[00:00:49] Maybe there's time holding you back. Maybe there's mindset holding you back. Welcome and thank you for joining us on the inspired stewardship podcast. [00:01:11] We'll learn to invest in yourself, invest in others and develop your influence so that you can impact the world.
[00:01:20]And today's spiritual foundation episode about investing in yourself. I talk with you about Romans 12 two. I talk about how the transformation of your mind is part of dealing with burnout and stress. And I also share how transforming the mind. Isn't really just about what you think or what you do.
[00:01:43] Romans 12 two says. In various verses and various translations, but it boils down to saying, don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think, [00:02:00] then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
[00:02:07] Yeah, I love that idea of don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, or don't conform yourself to this world. It says in other translations, but transform your mind and thus transform who you are when it comes to stress and burnout. I think one of the reasons that we deal with that. Each and every day is because we try to conform ourselves to the world instead of transforming ourselves for the benefit of ourselves in a relationship with.
[00:02:46] Yeah, burnout and stress comes about through a lot of different things, but the disconnection we have between what we do, what we say, what the world says for us to do and what the world says for [00:03:00] us to say. And then what we perceive is the will of God in our life is in my opinion, one of the biggest causes for that level of stress.
[00:03:12] Because the truth is that when we're worried about what we're going to do, when we're worried about what others will think, when we're worried about whether or not we're really successful in the eyes of others and doing the things that the world has called us to do. I think in many cases that causes stress in our life.
[00:03:32] That causes frustration. That causes fear because we don't feel like we measure up. But the truth is that in God's eyes, we are measuring up. We are able to achieve the things that God wants us to achieve. It's just often those things aren't exactly in alignment with what the world wants for us. And that disconnect can create [00:04:00] a problem and create a problem of stress of burnout.
[00:04:03] But I think as we recognize the will of God in our life, as we look and we test things and we try things and we see what things are aligned, that are moving us in a way that is actually successful and actually good for others actually builds our relationship with other people, builds our relationships with God.
[00:04:26] As we find those things that create harmony and peace in our life, then what ends up happening is those are the things that we're drawn to. And if we do more of those things, then I think we have less stress. We have less burnout. We have less chance of having that disconnect in our life that creates stress and strain and worry.
[00:04:52] It's about aligning ourselves with the will of God that creates that feeling of peace. The truth is when we [00:05:00] talk about transforming our mind, the obvious thought is it's all about what we think and all about what we do. And that is certainly true. That's certainly part of it that certainly.
[00:05:11] Part of the journey that is going on here is that we are called to align ourselves in what we think and what we do with the will of God. But I also think in some ways it goes deeper than that, because it's also about how we relate ourselves to others. It's about how we treat other people. It's about having those moments of love and kindness and grace for other people.
[00:05:42] All of those things are also things that end up helping us in our relationships and helping us deal with stress in our own life. The funny thing is that as we get more in alignment and have better relationships with God and with others, we also [00:06:00] have a better relationship with ourselves. And as we have a better relationship with ourselves, as we get more in tune with our own emotions, our own feelings with what's going on in our own hearts and our minds, that it becomes easier to quote transform yourself because that transformation is just about living out what you know you're supposed to be doing.
[00:06:21]One of the other sources of stress and strain and burnout is oftentimes comes about when you know what you're supposed to be doing, when you know what God has put on your heart and on your mind as a calling, but you're not finding yourself to live it out because maybe there's money holding you back.
[00:06:39] Maybe there's time holding you back. Maybe there's mindset holding you back. This is one of those things that I've seen time and time again, where people can tell me, this is what I'm called to do. This is what God has put on my heart. This is what I'm supposed to be doing in the world, but I'm just not able to do it.
[00:06:59] And the truth [00:07:00] is that feels true. But that's another one of those transformations that has to happen in the mind because feeling like that is true and it being true are not the same thing. Oftentimes those things are not actually true, but they feel so true to us that they become the truth. And part of the transformation, recognizing how you can align your internal thoughts, your internal beliefs with what you do so that you can build those relationships because out of those relationships is really the transformation that comes about.
