[00:00:32]Scott Maderer: [00:00:32] develop more resources and I've got more flexibility and control over my own schedule. I'm able to do things that used to, I would never have been able to do because I was working all day and I was spending time. That others put demands on what I did where now I have much more control over what I welcome.
[00:00:55] And thank you for joining us on the inspired stewardship podcasts. [00:01:20]In today's episode about impacting the world by stewarding your time. I talk with you about how yes, we all in one sense have the same amount of time, but I also talk about how there are differences in opportunity that create differences in the real time we have available. I share how this focus can help you not waste the time you have, and the time that you are privileged to get.
[00:01:50] As we talk about stewarding your time. Wouldn't it be great. If you could support this podcast and do it without taking too long, it turns out you can't. All you have to [00:02:00] do is use inspired stewardship.com/amazon. When you're ready to make a purchase via Amazon and a small commission will come back to support the show.
[00:02:08] Just that quick. If you enjoy the show, when you are ready to buy from Amazon, just use inspired stewardship.com/amazon. Time is funny. I've talked before about how we all do have the same amount of time available to us in the calendar, on the clock in the week, in the day, whatever way you want to look at it, time is this fixed asset.
[00:02:35]It's the most finite resource that we can ever possibly have. But today I also want to talk a little bit about how, despite that. In one sense. We don't all have the amount of time available. I came across this great article the other day on this website called the important site that just talks about why different things are important.
[00:02:59] And [00:03:00] the one I found, the article that I found is 10 reasons why time is important. And as I read through that, it made me start thinking about some things a little differently. So obviously time's important because it is the way by which we, since the universe, that's the way that we know what comes first, second, third.
[00:03:20] And I've talked before about how time is the most precious of resources, because in a very real way, you can't get it back. You could lose all of your money today. You could lose all of your stuff today. You can even lose the relationships you have today. And probably recover and regain relationships, Regaine stuff and Regaine money.
[00:03:47] But time, on the other hand, once it's gone. And of course, time is important because we never know how much time that we have either. You could not wake up tomorrow. [00:04:00] I could die. As I walk back from my office to my house. This afternoon, it truly is of resource that none of us know how much of that resource we've been privileged to give.
[00:04:15] And I've talked before about how, the only time that you have available to you to act is the present. You can't act in the future. You can't act into the past. You can only learn from the past and you can prepare for the future, but you can only act. In today, how we seem, how we see time and how we handle time affects all components of our life.
[00:04:41]The truth is time in a very way. Real way is a resource that you must manage well, because time is a healer. Time is a teacher time lets you develop skills time, lets you earn assets and money time lets you recover from bad [00:05:00] events. Time, lets you build relationships. Time is that fundamental resource upon which all other resources are built.
[00:05:10] And all of those were things that were in this article and they're things that I've talked before on this podcast, but one of them I haven't ever talked before. And so I wanted to just talk about it today and it says, because of privileges, not everyone truly has the same amount of time in a day. And it basically means that.
[00:05:30] The amount of free time that people have varies dramatically. If you're financially independent and you don't have to go to work at a set time of the day and you've got control over your own schedule, if you can afford to pay other people to do certain tasks that take out. Time of your day, like mowing your yard and cooking your meals.
[00:05:52] Then by definition, you have more time available to you than someone who has to work two jobs, maybe a [00:06:00] single parent who has to take care of their kids plus work plus other things, because the truth is it's not just a Mount that about the total amount of time that we have. Which is the 24 hours in a day, the 168 hours in a week.
[00:06:13] And so on. It's also about what we have available to us to be able to do other things. The person that works all day can't necessarily also as easily develop a new skill. Now they can still do it, but it's going to take a little longer in terms of calendar time, because they've only got so much time each day, but it really can still add up.
[00:06:38] So it's not a matter of if you're underprivileged give up and don't work to change things, but instead it's a recognition that some of us do have it easier than others. And I love that idea because it is true and it is something that I don't think I've really ever thought about that way, but I've seen it in my own life [00:07:00] as I've developed more resources and I've got more flexibility and control over my own schedule.
[00:07:05] I'm able to do things that used to, I would never have been able to do because I was working all day and I was spending time. That others put demands on what I did where now I have much more control over what I do. And because of that, I've been able to build up more resources. It's becomes an accelerating thing, but the truth is most of us can do that.
[00:07:31] It just takes us longer because if you don't have access to that free time, you've got to eat out smaller segments of time to allow yourself to grow. Over time. But I love this idea too, because it is what allows us to recognize that number one, we are privileged in every second of the day. And so if we are wasting time, if we are spending time in a way that [00:08:00] isn't helping others, that isn't building our relationships, that isn't causing us to grow, that isn't helping us get a little better each and every day, then what happens.
[00:08:12] Is, we are not using the time that we are privileged to get whatever time that is, whether we're privileged to have a lot of free time, or we're not, we still have to use that time. And recognizing that if you've been blessed, With resources that allows you to free up some of your time, then your charge to do even more with that time, your charge to help and serve even more people you're helped and charged to serve and build even better relationships.
[00:08:46] You're going to have more demanded upon you because you have more available to you. And I'm not talking about being demanded on by outside forces. I'm talking about being demanded [00:09:00] on you by the relationship that we have with each other and with God, it's interesting, but that privilege can be wasted if you aren't paying attention to the fact that you have privilege.
[00:09:18] And that's what I loved about this, because it was one more way. Of bringing to my mind and my attention, the fact that in so many ways I've been blessed in my life and I've been helped by so many people. And I've been given so many resources and I need to be thankful each and every day for those blessings.
[00:09:38] But I also need to recognize that means I'm called to use those blessings so that they continue to bless me, bless my family, but more importantly, They're used to bless others. Thanks for listening.
