00:00:32 And if you are growing, but you're just doing it so that you can get more or that you can get better. I challenge you to begin to look at how can you use that growth to serve others. And if you're already on that journey and doing that, then I challenge you to keep going and go further than you even believe that you can welcome.
00:00:54 And thank you for joining us on the inspired stewardship podcast. We'll learn to invest in yourself, invest in others and develop your influence so that you can impact the world.
00:01:26 And today's episode about investing in others through stewarding your talent. I talk with you about why often folks see one way to grow and succeed or put forward that there's only one way to do this and why the truth is there. Isn't only one way and why it's important to understand yourself really well so that you can grow and then begin to invest in others.
00:01:51 You've heard me talk about developing your talent and what are the best ways to do that is through books. But if you're like most people today, it's hard to find the time to read. And that's why today's podcast is brought to you by audible. Go to inspired stewardship.com/audible to sign up and you can get a 30 day free trial. There's over 180,000 titles to choose from.
00:02:17 And you can pick one and listen your way to developing your talents via audible. That's inspired stewardship.com/audible to get your free trial and listen to great books the same way you're listening to this podcast. You know, if you pay attention to what's going on around you, the self development industry, the, the ideas that we need to grow ourselves are all around us.
00:02:45 And the truth is I talk about that a lot here on the podcast as well, because I do believe that that it isn't Portant to be intentional and terms of growing yourself. I, I talk about how there's a, not an event, how we should be moving towards perfection, but it's not a destination. It's, it's more about the journey. I talk about the fact that often times what heads up happening to us as we kind of get stagnated,
00:03:14 we don't develop ourselves any further, past a certain point. And because of that, we get stuck where we are, and we don't see a way out. We don't see a way to, to grow or to change. And the truth is if you read a book or tuned into various podcast or listen to videos or whatever, you oftentimes will come across gurus,
00:03:35 who will tell you the one way to grow and succeed, that there's one way that you need to do it my way, whether it's a time management system, whether it's a, a way of handling your money, whatever it is, there are a million gurus out there who will all tell you that they have the one foolproof way to make it work.
00:04:00 And the truth is there isn't one full proof way, because we are all unique beings. We each have our own unique set of skills set of abilities. We each have our own personalities, our own bents, our own ways of looking at the world, our own experience in history. Sure. There are similarities. There are things we can do to kind of group people into terms of how we communicate or how we see the world.
00:04:29 You'll, you'll see these categorizations. And I use them myself. Think about the disk method. That is a way of grouping people into broad groups based on similarities and differences. The same thing's true for Myers, Briggs or StrengthsFinder or any of these other systems that give us a picture into ourselves. And the truth is all of those pictures are going to be incomplete because we're never seeing the full picture there a way of simplifying things so that we can understand them.
00:05:03 And then we can use that understanding to move ourselves forward. So don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying that those tests aren't valuable. I find them incredibly valuable because they let us understand ourselves and understanding yourself is the first step towards growth. And then understanding others is the second step. But I do believe we have to understand ourselves first. And then we can begin to understand others because it's that inner relationship between the two that really gets us traction.
00:05:40 And it allows us to develop and invest in others. You know, the truth is whether it's learning by reading books, whether it's watching videos, whether it's listening to podcast, whether you know, getting things done by David Allen resonates with you or the work that Michael Hyatt puts out or the work that I put out resonates with you, whatever it is. One of the things I do as a coach is I try to help unpack what is it that you need?
00:06:07 What's your unique path forward? That's I think one of the values of coaching, because it's involving another human being, we can kind of begin to dissect and pull out of you. The things that you really need, because the truth is what I believe is key is less the one way and more that you develop your way. See the truth is I don't think there's a one size fits all answer.
00:06:36 I don't think everything from any one system is perfect for every single person. Yet. I believe that there is always a way that we can grow. There's always a way that we can develop ourselves no matter what challenges we face, whether it's a limit of time, whether it's a limit of money, whatever it is, there are still things you can do to be on that journey.
00:07:03 And maybe you'll go a little slower. Maybe you'll go a little faster, but there's a way to do it. The trick is getting inside yourself so that you can unpack who you are and how you do it and what you want to do. What are your values? What are your priorities? What's important to you? What are your giftings? What are you good at?
00:07:25 What do you love to do? What will people pay you to do? All of these things come together. And that's what allows us to grow ourselves. But here's the key. I don't believe we should just grow ourselves just for the sake of growing ourselves. It's not about you getting better so that you can stand up and say how much better you are instead.
00:07:50 It's about you getting better so that you can grow and impact others more. It's about you getting better so that you can invest in others so that you can grab others where they are and help them along the journey. It's not about what we do for ourselves. It's about what we do for others. And that's really the key to growth is when you begin to make that shift from just growing for your own sake,
00:08:16 to growing, to impact and grow others. That's when we move from success to significance. That's when we began to recognize that the world isn't about how much more we get, how much better we get, how much more we grow instead. It's about how much more we can get opportunities to pour into others. So I would challenge you first off, if you don't think you can grow to recognize that there is a way you just need done cover it,
00:08:48 and if you are growing, but you're just doing it so that you can get more or that you can get better. I challenge you to begin to look at how can you use that growth to serve others. And if you're already on that journey and doing that, then I challenge you to keep going and go further than you even believe that you can.
