00:00:00 Thanks for joining me on Episode 5 98 of the inspired stewardship podcast I'm Derek Guajardo from Strong Life Coach. If you're taking care of yourself by taking advantage of other people for taking care of yourself and never looking to see what others need, that is indeed selfish. But that's not what self cares about. Self cares about taking care of yourself so that you have the energy and the time and the ability to then go out and serve others and poor in tow.
00:00:48 Others welcome and thank you for joining us on the inspired stewardship podcast. If you truly desire to become the person who God wants you to be, then you must learn to use your time, your talent and your treasures for your true calling in. The inspired storage of podcast will learn to invest in yourself, invest in others and develop your influence so that you can impact the world. In today's episode about investing in yourself by stewarding your time I talk with you about allowing yourself toe. Have some time for self care.
00:01:30 Why yourself? Care may not look like the self care of others and how it isn't selfish to focus on this,
00:01:38 but others may try to say that it is as we talk about stewarding your time. Wouldn't it be great if you could support this podcast and do it without just taking too long?
00:01:49 It turns out you can't. All you have to do is use inspired stewardship dot com slash amazon when you're ready to make a purchase via Amazon,

00:02:05 just use inspired stewardship dot com slash amazon. One of the good things that I've seen going on here lately is there are a lot of people posting about how deering this time with everything that's going on,
00:02:21 how we should make sure that we're taking some time for self care, you know that we're doing the things we need to do,
00:02:29 like continuing to eat well, continuing to get plenty of sleep exercise where we can and these sorts of things.
00:02:36 And I think that's a good thing because ultimately one of the things that we've ignored, at least here in the US quite a bit is this idea of self care and the value that it has.
00:02:49 We have such a culture of looking at work and sort of the be all Indal that we forget sometimes about having the time in the space to take care of ourselves.
00:03:01 And you need to allow yourself whether times are good or times or bad to do those things that allow us to care for ourselves to put space in your day and time in your day for relaxation,
00:03:15 for sleep, for eating well for exercise, for written mental health activities like meditation and prayer and reading scripture.
00:03:26 All of these things are important for our well being, allowing ourselves to have positivity that enters our life so that we aren't always focused on the news and the negative is even mawr important right now than it is normally,
00:03:42 and it's always important. But one of the things that I've also noticed now that's going on is people are judging others for what they're doing for self care.
00:03:55 We look at somebody else and we say, Well, you aren't exercising as much as I am So you're not really taking care of yourself or you're not spending as much time focused on meal planning,
00:04:07 so you're not really taking care of yourself. And one of the things that I want to encourage people to recognize is yourself.
00:04:14 Care Routine may look different from someone else's, and that doesn't necessarily make it bad, and it doesn't necessarily make it wrong.
00:04:24 But what you should be doing is paying attention to. Is it working for you? You're that Dr Phil moment.
00:04:32 How's that working for you? Where you look at what's going on and you figure out, Is it getting you what you want?
00:04:38 Is it getting you? Where you need to be isn't allowing you to continue to grow and be healthy.
00:04:46 And if the answer is no, then you probably do need to examine what you're doing for self care and perhaps modify it.
00:04:53 But if the answer's yes, then don't allow anyone else's routine to dictate what you need to be doing yourself.
00:05:03 Care Routine may not look like other people's and that's OK. But in the same token is whenever you're speaking into someone else's life,
00:05:13 you need to be really careful that you're not just prescribing to him the things that work for you, but you're helping to look at how they're wired and what their personality is and what their needs are and out of those needs,
00:05:26 you begin to recognize and recommend different tools and techniques as one of the things I do in the productivity for your passion courses.
00:05:35 I have people actually first focus on who they are and how they're wired, because there's some core things that are going to be similar.
00:05:43 You're gonna need a morning routine and evening routine and these sorts of things. But what you put in them is often very different for different people,
00:05:53 and how you frame them is different for different people. So some of the core activities air the same.
00:06:00 But what they look like can be dramatically different if others air looking at what you're doing for self care and they're focused on why it's wrong right now,
00:06:14 there's a lot of judgment going on. There's a lot of people saying, Well, you should be spending all of your time in certain ways.
00:06:22 This judgment of If you don't come out of this with the new skill or a new activity than you lack passion,
00:06:27 that's not necessarily true. You need toe. Make sure that you're listening to the positive people in your life.
00:06:35 You're listening to the uplifting energy in your life, and you're recognizing the fact that taking care of yourself is not selfish,
00:06:45 even if others say it is now taking care of yourself at the exclusion of others that selfish, if you're taking care of yourself by taking advantage of other people for taking care of yourself and never looking to see what others need,
00:07:01 that is indeed selfish. But that's not what self care is about. Self cares about taking care of yourself so that you have the energy and the time and the ability to then go out and serve others and poor in tow.
00:07:16 Others, because the truth is we have toe also spend some time filling up our own cup. If we're going to pour out and take care of others and serve others,
00:07:27 taking care of yourself is not a bad thing. It's not wrong. It's not evil, taking care of yourself in a way that harms others.
00:07:36 That's a problem. But usually that's not what we're talking about here. And yet other people will look at what you do and say that that's what you're doing.
00:07:44 You're being selfish because you're taking care of yourself, so be careful about the messages that you're allowing into your life right now.
00:07:52 I've been muting a lot of people on Facebook of late because there's a lot of negative energy out there and I just don't have the ability toe have that in my life right now.
00:08:03 Normally I can filter it and I can ignore it. But right now, with everything that's going on,
00:08:08 it's really hard to do that. So I'm just silencing it for a little while because right now I don't have that emotional bank of energy because I'm using that emotional bank of energy to support my family,
00:08:23 to support myself, to support my clients, to make sure that the people around me that need me are being taken care of well and that I'm taking care of myself and I encourage you to find the way to do the same for you.
