I talk with you about why confidence and faith aren't the same thing.
00:01:44 How out of faith comes confidence and why this is important right now. Let's talk a little bit about confidence and faith and how these two things are different and yet how they work together.
00:02:00 I think this is something that's really important to understand all of the time, but especially right now, when folks are going through such difficult times,
00:02:09 you know, faith is this strong trust and confidence in something or someone usually something like a higher power,
00:02:19 something that is more than you. It's often used as a religious term, but it can't even be used in other ways,
00:02:28 like someone having faith in a system or a process. It it means trust and confidence in something bigger than you.
00:02:39 Why confidence is a self assurance. Confidence is about believing in yourself. It's a feeling of certainty that's based on your own abilities,
00:02:52 your own strengths. What you can or cannot do, and both of these are important feelings. Both of these are things that as human beings we need to be aware of and have in our arsenal of belief.
00:03:08 We need to be able to look at ourselves and understand that we are capable that we are able to do something.
00:03:15 The difference is, though, that we need to recognize that there are many things that were called to do that are bigger than us things that if all we do is depend upon our own abilities,
00:03:25 our own confidence, we would never be able to achieve these air the gods size dreams and activities that were called to a CZ Christians.
00:03:35 It's this idea that sometimes we have to step beyond what we can do for ourself and to be able to do that and have confidence in it.
00:03:46 We have toe have faith. We have to look to a belief in a higher power. We have to look to belief in something that is bigger than us,
00:03:55 something that is outside of us, something that gives us the ability to do things beyond what are normal abilities are you know,
00:04:06 the truth is that when you think about faith and confidence, the two are tied together, too, because as you develop faith as you develop belief in a higher power that is able to call upon you and make you do things that arm or it gives you more confidence in your own abilities in your own ability to step out there and do something that perhaps comes beyond what you believe you can do and by the same token having some sense of self assurance,
00:04:36 knowing where your own limits are, knowing what your own abilities are, recognizing your own gifting and calling lets you recognize the blessings that that you've been given that lead toa faith and the truth is both of these air important right now?
00:04:55 I've seen many clients right now that are struggling with believing that the world will recover from this. I've seen others that air,
00:05:04 believing that everything that is being put out there is a liar or falsehood, that there is no problem.
00:05:11 I've seen people struggling with understanding reality or dealing with reality, not wanting to make changes or wanting to make too many changes,
00:05:23 and it's a very normal thing to have this happen, whatever. There's whatever there's confusion, Whatever. There's doubt.
00:05:29 Whenever there's change, we begin to look to ourselves and look to others and struggle with understanding. What can we have faith in and what what is our confidence based on it?
00:05:42 It often shakes our center. It shakes our confidence and it shakes our faith. But right now, recognizing the fact that these two things are tied together and that the faith that we have in certain things can be unshaken,
00:05:58 you know, I truly believe that God is good and God is working to the good of all things,
00:06:05 often in ways that we don't necessarily see or understand. I don't know what's coming out of this, and I'm not saying that everything that's happened has been perfect or good,
00:06:17 because the truth is there are people being hurt by this. There's pain, there's evil and those things exist in the world.
00:06:25 And I see them. I'm not blind to him. But I still have faith that ultimately, if we all work within our own calling within our own gifting,
00:06:34 if we all strive to be a little better today than we were yesterday, if we look for ways to lift each other up and get through this together.
00:06:45 Then ultimately it will all work for the good. It will all work out. It will somehow come out of this with a new normal.
00:06:53 That is not the same as it was before, but is better than it was before. See, I don't aim for things to return to normal.
00:07:03 There were things in the normal that I honestly hope, don't come back. There were behaviours and attitudes and actions that we would exhibit towards each other that were harmful and hateful.
00:07:17 And I hope that those things do not return. I hope out of this we recognize how much we need each other,
00:07:25 how much we need to be there for each other toe lift each other up. I hope that some of the wonderful things that I've seen coming from this,
00:07:33 where people have delivered groceries for people that can't get out of the house, where people have you, kindly given away their own ability to do things or given taken risk upon themselves.
00:07:47 The people that are still working in the grocery store stocking shelves despite the fact that that's a risk to them.
00:07:55 I hold those people up as heroes, just like the doctors and the nurses that are working through this and struggling to figure out what exactly is going on.
00:08:05 You know, one of the things is people keep saying that Well, they keep changing the reports on different things,
00:08:10 and that's because people are lying. The truth is, a lot of times it's because they're figuring it out as they go along the same way we all are.
00:08:20 This is how science works. This is how the world works. This is how God has designed the world.
00:08:28 God is not designed the world to be simple and have clear answers. I don't know why that is,
00:08:34 but it's true. Instead, God has designed the world with complexity that we are gifted with abilities to understand.
00:08:43 But that takes time. That takes effort. It's not easy. It's not clear it's a process, not an event.
00:08:49 It's something that we need to work on together each and every day. So my challenge to you is find a way that you can have confidence in faith and find the way that you can reach out to someone today that needs help and lift them up and helps them in this time of need.
