Join us today for the Saturday Night Special about why we often forget to put things in the right order...

In tonight's Saturday Night Special I share how you can focus on putting things in the right order instead of letting the wrong order disturb you.

In tonight’s Saturday Night Special I talk with you about why the order in which we attack things is important, how it’s not about the tool or the skill until you have the mindset, and why doing “something” is often the enemy of doing the right thing.

If your family is important, how are you going to set up a system and a process where you can carve aside time and when you're with your family,
00:00:40 you're actually with your family. Cause the other thing I see happen is people will spend family time, but the entire time they're actually multitasking. They're on their phone or they're on their computer. And they're trying to send emails and answer things from the client and do other work. Welcome. And thank you for joining us on the inspired stewardship podcast. If you truly desire to become the person who God wants you to be,
00:01:04 then you must learn to use your time, your talent and your treasures for your true calling in the inspired stewardship podcast. Learn to invest in yourself, invest in others and develop your influence so that you can impact the world. And tonight, Saturday night special. I talk with you about why the order in which we attack things is important. How it's not about the tool or the skill until you actually have the right mindset and why doing something can often be the enemy of doing the right thing.
00:01:43 Now, one area that a lot of folks need some help with is around the area of productivity. Getting not just more things done, but actually getting the right things done can be really, really tough. I've got a course called productivity for your passion. That's designed to help you do this and then to hold you accountable and walk with you so that you can tailor productivity,
00:02:12 not just to be getting more done, but actually getting the right things done. What's more, we take the approach of looking at your personality and how you actually look at things in the world and tailor the productivity system to your personality. Because the truth is a lot of the systems that are out there are written really well for somebody with a particular personality type.
00:02:35 But if you have a different approach to things, they just don't work, but there's tools and techniques and approaches that you can take that will work for anyone. And we help you do that and productivity for your passion. Check it out over@inspiredstewardship.com slash launch. One of the biggest enemies of actually doing the right things, getting the things that are most important to you done paying attention to your relationships are actually focusing on.
00:03:07 If you've run a business, the things that help you grow the business, working on the business instead of in the business, if you're a stay at home, mom, being able to create time to do the things that you want to do with the kids without feeling stressed. And like you're putting something else off. These sorts of things, doing the right things is so hard often because we think about it wrong.
00:03:33 We put things in the wrong order. You know, I work with a lot of people on productivity and it's one of the reasons that I fight against the term time management, having this idea of managing our time. I think it puts the focus wrong. I think it puts the focus on creating situations where we use every instance of our time to the most.
00:03:56 We squeeze all of the work out of it and we're working 24 seven. When in reality, I want people to be focusing on doing the things that really matter to them. And the truth is when we attack things. When we look at doing the work that matters all too often, we start focusing on all of the skills on the tools, on the techniques.
00:04:19 We start focusing on having a calendaring system and don't get me wrong. I think the tools are important because they create efficiency around how we do things. But the truth is until you have the right mindset for work, none of the tools matter at all. Because if you just learn the skills and if you just start developing and using the tools, well,
00:04:43 then it doesn't matter because you're not going to use them. Well, if you have a calendar system, but you fill every minute of it with work, if you have a way of capturing all of your tasks, but you, all you do is dump them down and never actually look at them. If all you ever do is add more and more to your to-do list and you never guard what's most important.
00:05:07 What's really the things you want to say yes to when you'd ever do the hard step of saying no to other things. Then the truth is having all the tools in the world, having all the skills in the world won't matter. You can make yourself more efficient, where you get more done more quickly by adding tools and by adding skills. But the problem is if you haven't done the hard work from a mindset perspective,
00:05:35 then all you'll do is free. That take that new free time, take that time that you've freed up and fill it with even more tasks that aren't actually the task that matter. You'll simply get more of the wrong things done. You won't actually fill that free time with things that matter. You won't actually use it to build relationships and to connect with other people.
00:06:00 You won't set aside time to plan and to build your business and be more effective. If that's your dream, you won't set aside time where you can actually be there with your family and your friends and not feel guilty about, About it. You'll do all of that because the truth is you'll just feel it All, all of your time with more stuff,
00:06:23 not the right stuff. Instead, what happens is we find that doing something becomes the enemy of doing the right thing. It's so important to just be doing something I've got to be busy all the time. I can't have any idle moments. I can't have any moment where I set aside for anything that isn't productive and efficient and using my time and using every second of the day,
00:06:49 I will tell you right Now using every Second of the day, yes, you're going to do that anyway. And, and I do want you to be deliberate and intentional about how you use those Seconds, but being deliberate And intentional means taking the mindset of saying no to things Who was meeting With a client last week. And I pointed out that they had to guard yeses by saying no,
00:07:14 and their answer was, but there's nothing on my calendar that I can say no to. There's nothing on my task list that I can say no to. Everything is important. And the truth is when everything's important, nothing is important. You've got to find a way to balance that. You've got to find a way to say, no, we're not Superman.
00:07:36 We're not super women. We cannot do it all. It's just not Physically possible. But until you admit that to yourself, until you give up that dream of being perfect in every way, until you take on the mindset that you know what I am going to have to say no to some things. So let me be deliberate and intentional and say no to the things that don't matter as much so that I can say yes to the things that really matter.
00:08:07 You've heard me say it before. If you've been listening to the podcast for a while, if you really want to tell me what you value, let me check your checkbook and let me check your calendar. Let me see how you spend your time. And let me see how you spend your money. And if you're not spending your time and your money in alignment with those things that you say,
00:08:27 you value that I'm going to question if you really value them at all. Because the truth is the only ways we have to show what we value is through how we spend our time and how we spend our money, how we spend the resources that are finite in our life. And all too often, what I see is people that go through life and they keep saying,
00:08:51 you know, my family is important, but then they never spend any time with their family. If that's true, if your family is important, how are you going to set up a system and a process where you can carve aside time? And when you're with your family, you're actually with your family. Cause the other thing I see happen is people will spend family time.
00:09:10 But the entire time they're actually multitasking. They're on their phone or they're on their computer. And they're trying to send emails and answer things from the client and do other work. And so, yes, they're physically present, but they're not really present. And if this is you, if this is how you find yourself dealing with it, this is one of those things that coaching really can help with because it helps you see it differently.
00:09:34 It helps hold you accountable to actually changing the way you do things, because the truth is you can just keep going through life, doing it the same way. You've always done it and you'll get the results that you've always gotten. Or you can figure out a way to put things in the right order and do the right thing instead of just doing something.
