[00:00:43] why aren't you taking action? Why have you given up in the past? Is it because of being afraid of failure or rejection? Is it because you believe that things are too hard? Is it believed that because you believe that you don't have the necessary skills? There's reasons [00:01:00] why you don't take action. Welcome and thank you for joining us on the inspired stewardship podcast.
[00:01:08] If you truly desire to become the person who God wants you to be, then you must learn to use your time, your talent and your treasures for your true calling in the inspired stewardship podcast, we will learn to invest in yourself, invest in others and develop your influence so that you can impact the world.
[00:01:37] the ninth, Saturday night special. I share with you what mindset really is. And I talk about how to recognize if your mindset is actually primed for action. I also share a few things you can do to begin shifting your mindset towards taking action this year. No one area that a lot of folks need. Some [00:02:00] help with is around the area of productivity, getting not just more things done, but actually getting the right things done can be really tough.
[00:02:11] I've got a course called productivity for your passion. That's designed to help you do this and then to hold you accountable and walk with you so that you can tailor productivity, not just to be getting more done. But actually getting the right things done. What's more, we take the approach of looking at your personality and how you actually look at things in the world and tailor the productivity system to your personality.
[00:02:40] Because the truth is a lot of the systems that are out there are written really well for somebody with a particular personality type. But if you have a different approach to things, they just don't work, but there's tools and techniques and approaches that you can take that will work for anyone. And we help you do that in [00:03:00] productivity for your passion.
[00:03:01] Check it out over@inspiredstewardship.com slash launch. No, I've talked before on the podcast about mindset and beliefs, but I'm not sure if I've ever actually defined it. A mindset according to psychology is a belief that orients the way we handle situations, it's the way that we work through what's going on and what should our response be?
[00:03:29] What should we do? Or what should we not do? In a good situation, our mindset can help us spot opportunities can help us grow, but they can also trap us in limiting. And self-defeating. Cycles there, there are tons of beliefs. There are tons of mindsets. I've talked before about the fixed versus the growth mindset that Carol Dweck popularize there's others about how we view the world and whether or not we view that.
[00:03:58]The only way people [00:04:00] respond to things is through authority and compliance, or do we view that people can learn to trust and cooperate? Do we view the universe and people as basically good, or do we look at them as basically evil and needing to be controlled? There's beliefs about whether or not we want to look at failure and avoiding failure as our primary goal.
[00:04:26] Are we okay with making new discoveries and making mistakes if they lead to new things? So there's all sorts of mindsets. But today I wanted to talk a little bit about an action mindset. See, the truth is that this is the time of year where a lot of people sit down and make resolutions and set goals and do all of these things.
[00:04:49] But a lot of studies show that by February, most of that action that people begin to take in response to that fizzles out. Then we'll start going to the gym because we want to [00:05:00] get in shape, but by mid February, that's gone. And part of that I think is because of the lack of changing our mindset around action and the action mindset is a determination to move from thinking about doing something to actually doing it.
[00:05:20] And here's the most important part. And it's the mindset about persisting? Even when the challenges are great, even when it gets hard, continuing it's moving from thought to action. One step at a time doing it one small step at a time. It's about how you say yes to yourself. So my wife and I are trying again, we've done this for a few years now where we've tried to walk the number of the year in miles.
[00:05:53] So this year we're trying to walk 2021, [00:06:00] 2022, 2021 was last year miles. And the funny thing is. Yo last year we had the same goal and it just completely fizzled out on us. And part of that is because we began to say no to ourselves each and every day, instead of yes, we began to fizzle out on it because well, last year was a hard year in a lot of ways.
[00:06:22] And that was the goal that we decided to give up last year. But we're continuing this year to reset refocus and do it again. See the action mindset contributes to how you act on your goals, whether or not you get motivated, whether or not you get connected to a reason to do them. See if you've struggled in the past with taking action with taking massive important action.
[00:06:50] It's usually not a lack of information. The truth is if we think about doing our money, most people can do the math. That's required in a budget doing [00:07:00] a budget. You can Google how to do a budget, but sticking to a budget, actually living on a budget. That's the hard thing. If you want to be financially successful, you can learn the tools and the techniques.
[00:07:13] It's the action that holds us back. Same thing for other goals as well. But the question that you have to ask is, are you really willing to make the changes, not just in what you believe, but also what you do, because the truth is it's a feedback loop. What we believe affects what we do, which affects what we believe, which affects what we do.
[00:07:35] You have to start though with changing your thinking. Why aren't you taking action? Why have you given up in the past? Is it because of. Being afraid of failure or rejection, is it because you believe that things are too hard? Is it believed that, is it because you believe that you don't have the necessary skills?
[00:07:53] There's reasons why you don't take action, but here's what you can do in [00:08:00] response. You can begin to reframe how you think about. That goal, how you think about that item begin to try to connect it to a bigger why? So it's not just about walking. It's about getting healthy. It's not just about walking. It's about being able to live longer so that I can be around the people that I love.
[00:08:21] It's not just about going to exercise. What are the benefits that it gives you? What is your, why behind it? What makes it more than just this goal? And also, instead of focusing on the challenges, focus on the rewards, focus on the good things, focus on how you feel better or how you lose a little bit of weight or how your energy begins to pick up.
[00:08:43] If it's an exercise goal, focus on the good, there's always bad. There's always challenges. Everything in life has bad things, but focus on the good. Also try to make sure that your goal is set with [00:09:00] very specific action words, verbiage that gives you the tasks that you're going to do. I'm going to walk 5.6 miles every single day.
[00:09:15] That's a very specific action. It tells me what I'm going to do. I'm going to take a walk. It tells me how far I'm going to have to walk. And so far I've been managing to do that specificity and verbs of action help make you do it. Give yourself a deadline set, a goal and a timeline that you need to do it by.
[00:09:36] That helps you stick to it and share that deadline with others and ask them to hold you accountable to it. Ask them to check in with you once a week or once a month periodically and see how you're doing. You may even want to find a buddy and go through that goal with them so that each of you are trying to do it because that also can help motivate both of you to follow [00:10:00] through because you don't want to let the other person down.
[00:10:03] And pay attention to your emotions around it. Make sure you're listening to inspirational music. You're paying attention to your energy. You're doing things to bring your energy up. You're rewarding yourself when you follow through with the goal. So that you're celebrating your wins and able to stick to it.
[00:10:23] All of these things help you begin to have a mindset to action and not be one of the people whose goals fizzle out by February 14th. Thanks for listening.
