Join us today for an episode about the expression and why it can be wrong...

Today's episode is focused on finding the truth and falseness in this expression...

In today’s episode about investing in others through stewarding your talent, I talk with you about why that expression is one that I HATE in many cases.  I share why that expression is also true in some cases.  I also explain how the difference is in understanding the difference between waiting actively and waiting passively.

00:01:26 I talk with you about why that expression good things come to those who wait is one that I hate and why,
00:01:34 at the same time, that expression has some truth. And then we talk about the difference between waiting actively and waiting passively.
00:01:46 You've heard me talk about developing your talent, and one of the best ways to do that is through books.
00:01:52 But if you're like most people today, it's hard to find the time to read. And that's why today's podcast is brought to you by audible.

00:02:18 That's inspired stewardship dot com slash audible To get your free trial and listen to great books the same way you're listening to this podcast,
00:02:29 good things come to those who wait. You know, this is often bandied about his advice. It's it's something that told two people,
00:02:37 especially when they're going through a difficult time. If if things air not coming and things were not working the way you want them to work.
00:02:45 Often you'll have someone tell you well, good things come to those who wait and, you know when it's used that way.
00:02:53 This is one of those expressions that I really hate. I hate it when people say this to folks,
00:03:00 as if somehow or another. It's about just sucking it up and putting in the time and going through the motions and having the pain,
00:03:08 because on the other side of it is a guarantee that something good will come, that that things will work out the way you want them to,
00:03:17 that the success will come. The new job, the new business, the new whatever will come, and all you have to do is just sit back and wait patiently.
00:03:26 This is often couched even in a faith message kind of way where people will say to someone that you know,
00:03:33 if you have faith, it will come to you if you just wait. If you just have faith,
00:03:38 it'll happen. God will take care of us exactly the way that you should be taking care of exactly the way that you desire.
00:03:47 It will happen somehow if you just wait. That's what Having faith is, but The truth is that that's not what we're promised as Christians.
00:03:57 Nor is that really what the world works like. There isn't a guarantee that if you just sit around and wait,
00:04:06 good things will happen. Obviously, having faith believing in the power of God and recognizing the ability that God has toe put good things in our way is true and Israel.
00:04:19 And if you wait with faith, is it possible that God will just magically make everything happen the way that it should happen to your total benefit?
00:04:30 Of course it's entirely possible God has that power. It's also possible that what will happen is something that really is for the best for you,
00:04:40 even though it's not exactly what you desired. See, it's also possible that you could try to force the world to operate the way you want it to operate,
00:04:49 to give you everything that you want. You could ignore the needs of others, and you can just barrel through full blast,
00:04:56 all bars going, ready to make it all happen and end up having nothing happened at all. See,
00:05:04 there's another side to this expression. This expression is also true, if you mean by it that not forcing your will,
00:05:14 not looking to do what you think is best but finding a way to faithfully prayerfully wait on things to develop in the time that they're supposed to be developing.
00:05:25 If you can use this toe, have a sense of contentment with where you are today, even if it's not where you want to be tomorrow,
00:05:34 even if there's also a drive to move forward to serve more people to build more Impact, to do things that help others in bigger and better ways.
00:05:45 Even if you're finding ways to go find where God is and partner with God and operate there and do the things that God is calling you to do to make an impact than this expression can be true.
00:06:00 See, there's a difference between sitting back and passively waiting for God in the world to just do everything and take care of every need and actively waiting where you recognize that you're content with where you are.
00:06:16 You're happy with all you have. You're proud of what you've done, and you're proud that you've brought glory to God in what you do,
00:06:25 and yet you also actively work you actively pray you actively listen for what direction you're supposed to be going in.
00:06:34 You actively pursue the next opportunity, and the next thing that God is putting on your heart to do if you recognize the fact that probably when you're looking at the things that you're called to do,
00:06:48 God is actually going toe ask you to get up and do something that not just sit around and wait,
00:06:56 but to actually do something to make something happen. Not through your willpower but through God's blessings that if you look and look for the things that are coming your way,
00:07:08 you can find ways toe leverage. Those and grow those and build those toe have a bigger impact to serve more people to help more people to reach out to more people,
00:07:21 you can find ways to actively grow yourself and others and make an impact on the world. Thanks for listening.
