[00:00:23] And one way to be inspired to do that is to listen to this, the inspired stewardship podcast with my friend, Scott Mader.

[00:00:31] Scott Maderer: not just becoming knowledgeable, but applying knowledge to the world with. That's really what wisdom actually is. It's the ability to apply knowledge? Not just knowledge in terms of book knowledge or intellectual knowledge, but also emotional knowledge. Welcome. And thank you for joining us on the inspired stewardship podcast.

[00:00:59] [00:01:00] If you truly desire to become the person who God wants you to be, then you must learn to use your title. Your talent and your treasures for your true call in the inspired stewardship podcast. We'll learn to invest in yourself, invest in others and develop your influence so that you can impact the world.

[00:01:21] And today's spiritual foundation episode about developing your influence. I talk with you about John chapter 16, verses 12 through 15. I also share why wisdom is the art of knowledge applied. I talk about how we have to both apply thinking and feeling to live well, John 16, 12 through 15 says I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them.

[00:01:46] When the spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth for, he will not speak on his own, but will speak whenever he hears. And he will declare to you the things that are to come, he will glorify me because he will take what is [00:02:00] mine and declare it to you. All that the father has his mind for this reason.

[00:02:05] I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. The thing is that this passage in John is part of the end of what is known as the farewell discourse when Jesus is getting ready to leave. And he's laying things out for the disciples before he goes, And when you think about it, it at one level, it almost sounds like Jesus is saying I'm going to send you your own personal Oracle.

[00:02:33] Who's just going to let you in on all the secrets of life. And if you just pay attention, there won't be any more surprises. But I actually don't think that's what this is saying at all. Instead, this is part of the end of that farewell discourse. It's almost cramming for the final exam or think about it as leaving instructions behind for the babysitter.

[00:02:57] The first time you're leaving your [00:03:00] baby in the care of a stranger. Before you leave and this worried parent in this case, isn't us, but it's Jesus saying look, this is what I'm leaving behind and I'm leaving it in the care of these people. And I got. Make sure they understand everything first before they, they leave before I go.

[00:03:22] But I got to make sure that they know where everything is when the baby cries, what to do when the baby sleeps, what to do, what to feed the baby, all of the instructions. And then at this point there's a transition. Where Jesus is saying. And when this isn't an enough when the instructions aren't enough, when something still goes wrong, here's how you can reach me through the holy spirit.

[00:03:52] I remain in reach. It's like leaving your cell phone number for the babysitter, so to speak. And this presence, [00:04:00] this spirit is there to declare, to use things that are to come, not in terms of a prophetic power of giving you next week's lottery numbers, but instead about letting you sense and feel the truth about what it is to live in relationship with each.

[00:04:19] And with God to help us reach reconciliation and forgiveness to help us have guidance towards not just becoming wise, not just becoming knowledgeable, but applying knowledge to the world with wisdom. That's really what wisdom actually is. It's the ability to apply knowledge? Not just knowledge in terms of book knowledge or intellectual knowledge, but also emotional knowledge, relational knowledge.

[00:04:55] It's about being able to be a supportive presence for others. It's about [00:05:00] being able to forgive others and ourselves. It's about recognizing. That there is help available to us. And that sometimes what we really need to do is phone, home, and ask for that help. It's about living a life of community and connection on all levels.

[00:05:23] And it's about recognizing the great mystery that is God. And experiencing that relationship with God as well. To recognize that God is greater than us. And yet we are invited into relationship with God. We have to apply our knowledge, not just to thinking, but also to feeling we have to understand our own feelings and the feelings of others so that we can enter into this communal living and [00:06:00] live well.

[00:06:02] Thanks for listening.
