[00:00:40] Scott Maderer: But when I look at the amount of time they spend with their family, it's almost Onyx. And when I ask why they say, Hey, because my family knows that I love them. My family already understands that. So I don't have to spend time with them and that can work on a short-term situation, but in the [00:01:00] longterm, that's a way to no longer have a family to make a priority.

[00:01:04] Welcome

[00:01:30] Stacy Henry: world.

[00:01:31] Scott Maderer: And today's episode about developing your influence by stewarding your time. I talk with you about handling time. God's way I share why doing this. Doesn't require you to believe in God at all. And I also explained why this is a powerful way to view. As we talk about stewarding your time. Wouldn't it be great.

[00:02:14] Imagine if you woke up in the morning and you were handed cash of $86,400 and what's more, the next morning you got up and again, you were handed $86,400 in the next day and the next, but you were given the order that each day you had to spend all of that money. You couldn't bring any of that into the next.

[00:02:41] You had $86,400 to live on each and every day for the rest of your life. Maybe you've got some ideas now, what would you do with that money each day? What would be the first thing you would buy in the second and the third? What would you do to take care of your family and take care of [00:03:00] yourself?

[00:03:00] What would you do to make sure that you were doing things that were important with that money? Would you buy luxuries? Would you. Buy a new house. What would you do with $86,400 each and every day? Now that number for some of you may have gleaned to this rather timidly quickly is not an arbitrary number.

[00:03:24] In fact, each and every day, we're getting. 86,400 seconds to spend that's 24 hours in a day, 60 minutes in an hour, 60 seconds in a minute gives us 86,400. Even if we take out eight hours of sleep every night and let's face it. Most of us don't get eight hours of sleep. Every single. That still gives us 57,600 seconds in a day to spend, but just like the analogy I was using at the beginning, those seconds don't carry [00:04:00] over those seconds have to be used each and every day.

[00:04:05] And the truth is most of us struggle with how we spend our time. It's one of the most common area of struggle for people, time management, productivity, all of these things becomes a problem. And part of that I think is because we don't think of it this way. First. We don't think of it as it's not our time in the first place.

[00:04:31] And second, we don't think of it in terms of the fact that it's a finite resource that we run out of. I'm a believer I believe in God. And I believe that God tells us everything is God's and our job is to steward it well, to take care of it. Our job is to make sure that resource, that gift that God is blessing us with is spent well.

[00:04:54] But even if you don't believe in God recognizing that this is a finite resource, [00:05:00] you only have so much. And out of the wisdom of the universe or in my belief, the wisdom of God, we're all given the exact amount of time as each other to spend each and every day. It's not ours to do with everything that we want.

[00:05:19] It's something that we're given to steward over, but at the same time, it is something that we can't make more. Everyone has the same amount of time, but we all use that time differently. And in fact, that's what makes it important because the way we use our time has to do with our priority. And I did say singular priority.

[00:05:49] We use the word priorities as a portal, more than one, but the word really means the one thing that comes before. So what is your priority? [00:06:00] What is the next priority after that one is finished. And then what is the next after that? It's multiple singulars as opposed to a Pearl. I have more than one priority.

[00:06:10] If you think about it if you take a jar and you fill it full of large rocks, we would look at it at first and we would say, no, that's full. We filled it up. But of course you could add sand to that. And it would fill around the edges of the rocks. What's more, you could come back in next time and you could put water in, on top of the sand and it would fill it even more.

[00:06:36] And the truth is that a lot of times what we do is we fill the rock, the jar in the opposite order, we put the water in first, the smaller priorities, and then we can't figure out how to put the big rocks in without making a mess. That big rock is the thing that comes first. What is it that's most important?

[00:06:56] Is it family? Is it friends? Is it [00:07:00] spending time serving others? What are the things that you're put on this planet to do? And are you actually doing them? You'll all too often. I see people that say my family is the most important thing. But when I look at the amount of time they spend with their family, it's almost non-existent.

[00:07:19] And when I ask why they say, Hey, because my family knows that I love them. My family already understands that. So I don't have to spend time with them. And that can work on a short term situation. But in the longterm, that's a way to no longer have a family to make a prior. Now the truth is that if we align ourselves with the priority of the commandment, that we are given where the first commandment is to love the Lord, your God, with all your heart, with all your mind, with all your soul and with all your strength.

[00:07:51] And the second is to love your neighbor. As yourself and that these two are equally important. [00:08:00] Then you spend time first aligning your priority with God putting that first. And then secondly, by looking, what can I do with my time that takes care of the people around me, my family and others as well, and its course as part of that.

[00:08:20] You also have to take care of yourself. It says, love your neighbors as yourself. So if you're not taking care of yourself, then you're not also able to care for others. You've got to take care of yourself as well. When you begin to look at your time this way and recognize that it is a finite resource that all you're doing is given the opportunity to steward that resource each and every day.

[00:08:47] And if you do it to the best of your ability to align it with the priority that you have each and every day, this is why this idea of focusing on the big three things that you have to get done work [00:09:00] so well, because it's a way of boiling it down to what is the priority that you have for today and how can you go out there and live it out to the best of your ability each and every day?
