[00:02:32] Donna Renee Patrick is serious about walking and her unique purpose in helping others walk in theirs. She is an award-winning Arthur of two devotionals at all times. [00:02:52] She has been a musician and a choir director, most of her life and serves as a powerful worship. She is a regular [00:03:00] presenter at the bay area. Church workers convention has had a commentary published with the African-American lectionary and serves on the faculty of the national convention of gospel choirs and choruses.

[00:03:11] Donna also serves on the executive board of the Northeastern district Baptist association. As the award-winning radio host of the Donna Patrick show, where we talk about all things, praise and worship, she coaches and trains, music, ministry, personnel, and church leaders on how to give God the kind of worship he wants rather than just what we choose to give him.

[00:03:35] Donna earned a bachelor of science degree from Bishop college in Dallas, Texas, as well as a master of arts in Christian education from Dallas Baptist university. Welcome to the show.

[00:03:46] Donna Renay Patrick: Thank you, Scott. I'm cruciate you having me tonight. I'm happy to be.

[00:03:51] Scott Maderer: So Donna, one of the questions that I like to ask all of my guests is this my brand is inspired stewardship and run things through that lens of [00:04:00] stewardship, but like leadership that we talked about before.

[00:04:04] It's a, one of, one of those words that different people hear different things when you use it. So for you, what does the word stewardship mean? And what is its impact been on your life?

[00:04:14] Donna Renay Patrick: Yeah. And you're absolutely right. That's a loaded question. What does stewardship mean? That's a loaded question. Scott for me, stewardship is the proper management of God's resources.

[00:04:28] Stewardship is the understanding that nothing that we have belongs to us we are never in a position of ownership. God owns everything. He just allowed us for the time that we're on earth to manage and possess some things for him. And so for me, stewardship is proper management of what God has given us and that's everything.

[00:04:58] I think sometimes [00:05:00] we. Think of stewardship as well. I can handle this. I can manage this myself. Maybe no. All of it belongs to God and see the word of God tells us in Psalm 24, the earth is the Lord. Everything belongs to him. We can never feel like we are the owners. We are never in owner's mode.

[00:05:24] We are always in stewardship mode and that means managing God's resources, managing God's stuff for his glory and in a way that pleases him.

[00:05:36] Scott Maderer: And how has that, that understanding of stewardship impact?

[00:05:38] Donna Renay Patrick: What I co wrote a book called the perfect seven. And I think I mentioned that to you early on in our first conversations, but the perfect seven talks about seven key areas of stewardship.

[00:05:51] And I'll be honest. I never really thought of stew. I've always thought of stewardship. I've always been taught to think of stewardship [00:06:00] in terms of talent time and true. We always hear about those. And then when I got involved in the perfect seven co-writing that project, I expanded my understanding of stewardship.

[00:06:14] And for me, I've had to take better care of my temple because my body is, he is too, and we've got scripture on bed. So I try to eat right. And work out because this is God's body. I also. Scott. I was convicted in my thoughts because thoughts are, God knows those as well. And so for me, I had to rethink what I was thinking.

[00:06:43] I had to rethink what I was allowing to come into my mind and what I was allowing to stay there because my thought life tied into my stewardship as well. So I had to make some choices. I had to make some personal changes there and [00:07:00] my thought life. Absolutely.

[00:07:02] Scott Maderer: Do you remember what the seven areas where

[00:07:05] Donna Renay Patrick: I do?

[00:07:06] I do title, thought time, talent, treasure, temple, and togetherness. And those are all T

[00:07:18] Scott Maderer: words

[00:07:19] that came about, but they're all. Yeah, it's good. Alliteration. It helps the book. Yeah. So if someone really wants to make a dent in the universe, they want to make whatever that means to them to make a dent in the universe. What are some of the top principles or ideas that people should learn to be able to do that?

[00:07:38] Donna Renay Patrick: I can share a couple, I can share two or three of those Scott. I already mentioned earlier service. If you really want to make a dent in the world in the universe, service serve others. We can't make it all about us. Me give to me, what can you do for me? [00:08:00] The question really is if you're really want to make a difference, In the universe, learn to serve others, learn to surf.

[00:08:09] And then another one is respect. Develop a healthy respect for all people, no matter where they come from, no matter what social, economic, cultural status they all. Develop a healthy respect for every person become a contact with whether that'd be a CEO or a homeless person, whether it'd be someone who makes a million a year or someone who makes a 10,000 a year, whatever the case might be.

[00:08:36] I healthy respect for other people. And then communicating. I believe communication is key in any area of our lives in ministry, in business, in relationships. Communication is everything because you're not going to know you can't get to know anybody. If you don't talk to them, if you don't talk to them and you spend time and remember [00:09:00] talking and communication are two different things, we can talk all day and not commute.

[00:09:06] So the two of us, so Scott, I would say service, respect, and communication. We've got to develop those.

[00:09:15] Scott Maderer: Okay. So this is the question that everyone tells me is the easy question. It's not the easy question. If I could invent a magic machine and I could pick you up from where you are today and magically transport you into the future a hundred to 150 years, and you were able to look back on your life and see all of the ripples that you've left behind.

[00:09:38] What impact do you hope you've left behind on the way?

[00:09:41] Donna Renay Patrick: You know what Scott, that is. That is such an excellent question. And I will tell you, I pondered this one longer than any of the others.

[00:09:52] It's not an easy question to answer right off the cuff. I really had to ponder this one, [00:10:00] but here's what I came up with. Scott. I hope that I will have left an imprint to let people know, to make walking out your purpose, a priority. I hope I would have made a mark there. I hope I would've made a mark, especially in the body of Christ to let them know worship is a lifestyle.

[00:10:27] It's a day-to-day pursuit and I hope I've, would've really made it an impact with people so that they know worship is not all only about coming to church on Sunday, because worship is not a Sunday morning activity. It is a Monday through Saturday and then back the sun, they. So those couple of things, I hope I will have made an impact there.

[00:10:53] And let people know that worship is more than just Sunday morning church attendance and [00:11:00] make your make learning your purpose, walking out your purpose priority in your life.

[00:11:07] Scott Maderer: So what's coming next for Donna, as you continue on this journey to living out your purpose in the life

[00:11:14] Donna Renay Patrick: around. That's an easy one.

[00:11:18] That's an easy one. Scott, I'm working on my third book, I'm working on my third book as we speak. And this one won't be a devotional. This one is going to be about my story. How some things that I've learned along the journey. Some things that I've learned, some things I've had to change, some things that I've had to rearrange in my life and some different mindsets.

[00:11:45] So I'm working on my third book. I'm also, co-authoring another book about the book is about not maintaining that standing on God's promises and not missing out on God [00:12:00] from. So I'm co-authoring, it was several other great writers. And so that is what that's about. And then I'm continuing in music ministry.

[00:12:11] I'm continuing to grow in worship ministry and continuing to teach others what that looks like, what worship ministry looks like. Not only on Sunday, hope what it looks like in every believers life.

[00:12:50] Donna Renay Patrick: You know what? I just want to share that stewardship is more I grew up where it was stewardship was pretty much all about money. And [00:13:00] how we handle it, but I've since learned that there's so much more stewardship than that.

[00:13:04] So I just want to encourage everybody to expand your thinking, to expand your thinking about stewardship and recognize that everything, literally, everything that we have belongs to God, the earth is he is everything we have in our particular sphere of influence. It all belongs to God. And so I just want to encourage everybody.

[00:13:26] To keep that mindset and understand that whatever we have, even down to our education, our degrees, all the experiences that we've had in life, all of it belongs to God, all of our resources be they financial, educational, academic, ministerial, all of our resources that are in our grasp. It all belongs to God.

[00:13:51] And I hope that we'll all be encouraged to remember that.
